Privacy Policy — Rhythms

Last updated: 26 August 2026

Rhythms is developed and published by Candan Weng, an independent developer. Contact: candanweng@gmail.com. In this policy, “we” means that developer, and “the app” means the Rhythms iOS app.

The short version

Rhythms collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDK that reports anything, and no server belonging to us. Your tasks stay on your device unless you deliberately export them, or turn on iCloud sync — which puts them in your iCloud account, not ours.

What is stored, and where

Everything you enter — task names, notes, categories, schedules and your completion history — is stored in a database inside the app’s own container on your device. We cannot see it, and neither can anyone else without access to your unlocked device.

iCloud sync

iCloud sync is off by default. If you turn it on, the app keeps a copy of your library in your own iCloud Drive, in a file named rhythms-library.json inside a folder called Rhythms. Your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account read and write that same file, which is how they stay in step.

That file is in your iCloud account, under Apple’s terms and your own iCloud settings. We have no access to it — there is no server of ours involved, no account with us, and no key we hold. You can open, copy or delete the file yourself from the Files app or from iCloud Drive on a Mac.

Turning sync off leaves the file where it is, because your other devices may still be using it. Deleting the file, or turning off iCloud Drive, is done in Apple’s own settings.

If you never turn sync on, nothing about your library leaves the device. If you delete the app and had sync off, that data is deleted with it.

What leaves your device

WhenWhatTo whom
You buy Pro, subscribe, or leave a tip The purchase request Apple
You tap “Restore purchases” A request for your past purchases Apple
You export a backup The file, to wherever you send it Chosen by you
You turn on iCloud sync Your tasks, categories and completion history Your own iCloud account

Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple’s App Store using Apple’s own StoreKit. We never see your payment details, your Apple Account, or your name, and we receive no personal information from Apple that identifies you. The app stores only a local note of which product you bought, so it knows to stay unlocked. Apple’s handling of that transaction is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Rhythms makes no network requests of its own. Purchases go through Apple’s StoreKit, and iCloud sync is carried by the operating system’s own iCloud Drive machinery — the app hands a file to iOS or macOS and the system does the rest.

Data we receive from Apple

If you choose to share crash and usage data with developers in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may show us anonymised, aggregated crash reports and sales figures through App Store Connect. We cannot identify you from them and we do not combine them with anything else. This is Apple’s reporting, not collection by the app.

Third parties

We share no data with any third party, because we hold none. There are no advertising networks, analytics providers, or data brokers involved in Rhythms, and no data is ever sold. Apple is the only party in the picture, and only for payments, as described above.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled locally by iOS on your device. They are not push notifications; nothing is sent through any server. If you decline notification permission, the rest of the app works normally.

Data you export

An exported backup is a plain JSON file containing your tasks, categories and completion history. Once you have shared or saved it, where it goes and who can read it is determined by where you put it. We have no access to it.

Retention and deletion

We retain nothing and cannot delete anything on your behalf, because we never hold any of it. On the device, the data lives for as long as the app is installed; deleting the app removes the database and every task, category and completion record with it, permanently.

If you have used iCloud sync, a copy also lives in your own iCloud account, and deleting the app does not remove it — that copy is yours to delete, from the Files app or from iCloud Drive on a Mac. Export a backup first if you want to keep a copy of either.

Children

Rhythms is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children. It contains no user-generated content, no messaging, and no links out to the open web other than the ones named in this policy.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, the CCPA and comparable laws you have rights to access, correct, export and delete your personal data. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete — the data is already entirely in your hands. To export it, use Settings › Backup › Export a backup. To remove everything, delete the app — and, if you turned on iCloud sync, delete the Rhythms folder from iCloud Drive. If you have a question about these rights, write to candanweng@gmail.com and we will answer within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here with a new date. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.

2026-09-19 · Last updated: 19 September 2026

App

「完整版」為一次性的 App 內購買,由 Apple(App Store)或 Google(Play 商店)處理,不是訂閱。

Game Center

We collect nothing

WordBook has no accounts of ours, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking SDKs. There is no server of ours that receives your data.

Two optional features use an account you already have — Apple’s Game Center and iCloud. Both keep things under your own Apple account; neither goes anywhere near us. See the Game Center and iCloud sync sections below.

Your books stay on your device

The EPUB files you import and the text of your books are written only to the app's own sandbox on your device. None of it leaves the device, and none of it is synced anywhere. Reading aloud is the one exception: the passage being read is sent to Microsoft's speech service to be turned into a voice — see point 3 under Network access below.

Reading progress, statistics, achievements and saved lines are written to the device too, and a copy is kept under your own iCloud account so that reading picks up where you left off on another device — see iCloud sync below. Either way, none of it is backed up to us, and we cannot read it.

Deleting the app deletes everything on this device. You can also clear it yourself at any time under Settings → About → Clear all data, which clears the copy in iCloud along with it.

Network access

The app reaches the network in three situations, all of which you start:

  1. When you browse or download public-domain books in the Library, it requests the catalogue from Gutendex (gutendex.com) and the EPUB files themselves from Project Gutenberg (www.gutenberg.org).
  2. When you buy or restore the full version, or sponsor the developer, it talks to Apple's or Google's payment service.
  3. When you have a passage read aloud and this device is online, it sends the passage being read to Microsoft's speech service (speech.platform.bing.com — the same one Edge's own “read aloud” uses) and plays back the voice it returns. The screen where you choose a voice asks the same service for its list of voices; that request carries no book text. Only the passage itself is sent: not the book's title, not what is on your shelf, not how far you have read, and nothing that identifies you. With no network, or in a language Microsoft has no voice for, your device's own synthesiser reads it and nothing is sent.

Those requests carry only the ordinary information needed to fetch a file or complete a transaction — nothing that identifies you, and nothing about what is on your shelf or how far you have read. Everything else works fully offline, including the full version once bought: what you own is recorded on your own device, so opening the app never waits on a network.

Purchases

The full version is a one-time in-app purchase — not a subscription — handled by Apple on the App Store and by Google on Play. Payment details are collected and held by them; we never see your payment method or billing information, and there is no server of ours that records what you bought. All we receive from the platform is a single yes/no — whether this device has purchased — which is then stored on your device.

Sponsoring the developer

The three items under Settings → About → Sponsor the developer are voluntary, repeatable in-app purchases, handled by Apple and Google in the same way. Sponsoring unlocks nothing and changes nothing about how the app behaves. The only thing recorded on your device is how many times you have sponsored, for one purpose: so the app can say thank you rather than ask you again. That number never leaves your device and is not uploaded anywhere.

Game Center

If your device is signed in to Game Center, the app posts two kinds of number to your Apple account:

  1. Achievements — the fourteen you have earned, the same ones shown on the statistics screen.
  2. Leaderboards — three figures: passages restored in total, your longest run of daily challenges, and your longest run of correct answers.

That is all that is sent. Which books are on your shelf, which one you are reading, how far you have read and what you have imported are never sent.

Those records are held by Apple, governed by Apple’s privacy policy, and belong to your Apple account rather than to this app. Your Game Center display name is visible to other players on the leaderboards — that is what a leaderboard is for — but that name is one you choose in your system settings, and we cannot read your real name or your Apple ID.

This is optional. Turn Game Center off under Settings → Game Center on your device and the app posts nothing at all; everything else works exactly as before. The app only ever sends to Game Center; it never reads anything back.

Clear all data clears what is on this device. Achievements and leaderboard scores already recorded in Game Center stay under your Apple account — they are yours, not ours, and we have no way to delete them. To clear those, use Settings → Game Center on your device.

iCloud sync

If your device is signed in to iCloud, the app keeps the following under your own iCloud account, so that reading picks up where you left off when you change devices or read on two of them:

  1. Reading progress — which passages each way of reading has restored in each book, and the best score for each.
  2. Statistics and achievements — the running totals, the daily-challenge streak, and the achievements earned.
  3. Saved lines — the passages you kept, and which book each came from.
  4. The interrupted board — the puzzle you were halfway through, so that continue has something to open.

What is not synced: the EPUB files you imported and the text of your books. Those stay on the device they were added to.

This uses Apple's iCloud key-value store (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore). It lives in your iCloud account, held by Apple and governed by Apple's privacy policy. There is no server of ours in between, and we cannot read a word of it.

This is optional. Turn WordBook off under Settings → [your name] → iCloud, or simply do not sign in to iCloud, and the app writes only to this device; everything else works exactly as before.

Clear all data clears both what is on this device and your copy in iCloud. One thing worth knowing: if another of your devices still holds the same reading, it will put its own copy back into iCloud the next time it syncs — that device was not cleared, and this one does not get to decide for it.

Children

The app collects no data, and therefore collects no data from children. There is no advertising and no communication between users. A Game Center leaderboard shows display names and numbers and nothing else — there is no chat and no messaging. If you would rather a child did not appear on one, turn Game Center off under Screen Time or Settings → Game Center.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page is updated and the change ships with an app update.

WordBook 使用條款 / Terms of Use

2026-08-11 · Last updated: 11 August 2026

WordBook(字裡行間)是一款單機文字解謎遊戲。

購買由 Apple(App Store)或 Google(Play 商店)處理,價格以商店顯示的當地金額為準。

What this is

WordBook is an offline word-puzzle game. It cuts your own books into passages and gives you twenty ways to put them back together. The game itself supplies no copyrighted content.

Free and full versions

  • Free: one of the ten bundled public-domain classics, all twenty ways to read, and five passages a day. Statistics, achievements and the commonplace book are all available.
  • Full: a one-time purchase that unlocks the other nine bundled classics, the daily challenge, unlimited passages, importing your own EPUB files, the online library, and saving a favourite line as a card.

The full version is not a subscription. Nothing renews and nothing else is charged.

Buying, restoring and refunds

Purchases are handled by Apple on the App Store and by Google on Play, at the price the store shows in your local currency. A purchase is tied to your Apple ID or Google account: on a new device, or after reinstalling, restore it from the purchase screen or from Settings → Full version → Restore purchase at no further cost.

Refunds are handled by the platform, not by us — on iOS through reportaproblem.apple.com, on Android through your Google Play order history. Once a refund goes through, the full version's features close again.

Sponsoring the developer

Settings → About → Sponsor the developer offers three voluntary amounts, handled by Apple and Google in the same way. Sponsoring is a consumable purchase: you can do it more than once, it unlocks nothing, and it does not appear under "Restore purchase" — because it bought nothing, there is nothing to restore. Everything the full version includes comes with the full version; sponsoring is purely a thank-you. Refunds for a sponsorship go through the same platform channels.

Your content

Books you import are yours. The app does not upload them, does not share them and claims no rights over them. You are responsible for having the right to use those files on your own device.

The online library draws on Project Gutenberg's public-domain books. These are out of copyright in most countries, but copyright terms differ from place to place; please use them according to the law where you are.

No warranty

The app is provided as it is. We work to keep it good, but we do not promise that every passage can be turned into every one of the twenty puzzles — some genuinely cannot, and the app skips those — nor that it is free of faults.

Your progress lives on your device. Deleting the app, clearing its data or losing the device loses that progress, and we hold no backup that could restore it.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page is updated and the change ships with an app update.
