InsightRSS Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 25, 2026
InsightRSS is an RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It is built so that your reading stays on your device: there is no account to create, and we (the developer of InsightRSS) do not run any servers that receive your data.
This policy explains what the app stores, what it sends over the network and to whom, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We do not collect, store or sell any personal data.
- There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking in the app.
- Your subscriptions, articles, reading history and AI results are stored only on your device.
- AI features run on your device (Apple Intelligence or the built-in Gemma model).
- The app connects to third parties only to do what you ask: fetch the feeds you follow, show site icons, download the AI model, read articles aloud with Microsoft voices, and process App Store purchases. Each is described below.
Data stored on your device
InsightRSS keeps the following in the app's private storage on your device:
- The feeds you follow, your categories and your settings
- Articles downloaded from those feeds, and whether you have read or starred them
- AI summaries, daily briefings, translations and the keywords the app learns from what you read
- The built-in Gemma AI model, if you download it (about 2.4 GB). On iOS and macOS it is kept in a shared app container so that other apps from the same developer can reuse it without downloading it again.
This data never leaves your device unless you choose to share it, for example by exporting an OPML file or using the share button on an article. We cannot see it. Deleting the app removes it. You can also remove feeds one by one, or all at once in Settings › Manage subscriptions › Unsubscribe from all.
Network connections
Websites and feeds you follow
To fetch feeds, full article text and images, the app connects directly to the websites you subscribe to. Like any web browser, this means those sites receive your device's IP address and a standard request identifying the app. What they do with it is governed by each site's own privacy policy.
Site icons (Google)
To show an icon next to each feed, the app requests it from Google's public favicon service. That request contains the domain name of the site (for example, example.com), not the articles you read. See the Google Privacy Policy.
AI model download (Hugging Face)
If your device does not have Apple Intelligence and you choose to download the built-in Gemma model, the app downloads the model file from Hugging Face. Hugging Face receives your IP address as part of the download. No article content is sent. See the Hugging Face Privacy Policy.
Read aloud with Microsoft voices
When you use Read Aloud with the "Microsoft neural voices" engine (the default), the text being read is sent to Microsoft's online speech service, which returns the audio. The app also downloads Microsoft's list of available voices. No account or identifier is attached to these requests, but Microsoft receives the text and your IP address. If you prefer that article text never leaves your device, choose Settings › Read aloud › Voice engine › System voice. System voices run entirely on your device.
Apple services
- Apple Intelligence runs on your device. Summaries, briefings and categories created with it are not sent to us or to Apple servers by InsightRSS.
- Translation uses Apple's Translation framework. Languages you have downloaded are translated on your device; the system may download language files from Apple. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, Apple Account or payment details. The app only asks the App Store whether a Pro purchase is active on your device.
What we do not do
- We do not collect analytics, crash reports or usage statistics.
- We do not use advertising or advertising identifiers.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share personal data with anyone.
Children's privacy
InsightRSS is not directed at children under 13, and because the app does not collect personal data, we do not knowingly collect any data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and post the new version at the same address. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
